Jakarta, October 31, 2024-PT Bank Syariah Indonesia Tbk (BSI) strengthens its position as the market leader of Islamic banks by continuing to explore the business potential of the halal ecosystem from various industrial segments, one of which is the halal food and beverage industry.

BSI Deputy President Director Bob T. Ananta said that the development of the halal ecosystem is one of the Company's main focuses in increasing the penetration of Islamic financial services in Indonesia.

“The potential of the halal ecosystem in Indonesia is huge. BSI is committed to continue optimizing the potential of the halal food and beverage industry to encourage Indonesia to become a global halal producer,” he said. This was conveyed during the ISEF (Indonesia Sharia Economic Festival) 2024 event organized by Bank Indonesia in Jakarta. (31/10)

He explained that the value of the real sector halal industry that can be worked on in Indonesia reaches US$264.92 billion or around Rp5,000 trillion. Of this total, around 78.9% or around US$209.04 billion was contributed by the halal food and beverage sector.

“The food and beverage sector, besides having enormous potential, also provides a broad multiplier effect for the economy. Therefore, BSI is increasingly serious in empowering this potential through a strong Islamic ecosystem for the welfare of the nation. We hope that Indonesia will not only become a consumer, but also be able to become the world's halal food and beverage production center,” Bob added.

To support the halal ecosystem, BSI has taken various strategic steps, including strengthening the national halal food and beverage industry through strengthening the Islamic ecosystem that includes a comprehensive supply chain.

These steps include the ease of payment for halal certification through virtual accounts, as well as comprehensive solutions for halal industry players. BSI also collaborates with various institutions, such as UPPPH and BPJPH, to strengthen the national halal certification system.

Not only that, BSI has also facilitated free halal certification for 1,000 MSMEs, opened the KHAS (Halal, Safe and Healthy Culinary) Zone, and synergized with the Halal Examining Agency (LPH) to create a more inclusive and sustainable halal ecosystem.

In addition, BSI also dispatched five micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) under its guidance to the Amazing Indonesia 2024 Festival in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on September 26-28, 2024 to penetrate the international market. Three of the five MSMEs are from the halal food and beverage subsector.

Until September 2024, BSI financing in several economic sectors that can be categorized as halal sectors was recorded at IDR 22,179 billion or 9.06% of total BSI financing. Some of the halal economic sectors are food and beverages, fashion, and pharmaceuticals and cosmetics.
